Get into Fall running mode with Sinister Sports and enjoy the Castle Mountain Resort Area on one of the most scenic race courses you’ll ever get to see. The Castle area is a secluded gem of a place that everyone should make an effort to visit. Castle Alpine Trail Race (CAT) combines wide open vistas, rugged single track, off-trail running, and so much delicious climbing. While it isn’t an extraordinarily long race distance-wise, CAT is like a schoolyard bully – it’s going to rough you up and doesn’t relent the whole day. CAT is 28 km with 2250m of elevation gain. It consists of 3 legs ranging in distance from 8.5 km to 10.7 km. Competitors can run CAT solo or as a relay team of 2 to 3 people. The course has an 8.5-hour time limit. This is a classic trail run covering two mountain summits and one of the most serene alpine valleys in the region. Each leg starts and ends at Castle Mountain Resort, so you don’t really need a support crew – just park your kit in the staging area and do some quick transitions. Leg 1 runs clockwise, Leg 2 counterclockwise, and Leg 3 clockwise. Being that it is September, you can expect a chance of snow and definitely a bone-chilling wind at the top of the mountain, or it can be hot… so bring all the gear! While you’re here, check out the flora and fauna. Castle is known for its wildlife viewing and exploring in the Spring through Fall before the ski season starts. Competitors will be treated to larches regardless of the weather conditions.CAT is a UTMB Qualifier and is a Trail Sisters Approved race. CAT is one of 5 races organized by Sinister Sports. You can check out their other races on their website.
