The Divide 200 is Alberta’s first and Canada’s only 200 mile race. This event is hosted by Sinister Sports in September at Castle Mountain Resort. Competitors, support crews, pacers, volunteers, and families will get to experience the true beauty of the Southern Rockies in the Fall throughout their multiple days in the area. The route includes the Castle/Crowsnest/Flathead region of the southern Canadian Rockies. The race celebrates Sinister Sports’ Rocky Mountain heritage and highlights portions of the stunning Great Divide Trail. The course is a combination of single track, double track, a small amount of road, cross country, and even a bit of scrambling. The race is about alpine travel, ridge walks, and getting competitors into remote back country. This event is for people with a great deal of both race experience and alpine experience. There will be some sections of route finding even though it is a prescribed course; the terrain can just be really gnarly out there. Racers will get to enjoy views and terrain in both Alberta and British Columbia. The race is open to solo competitors only and is capped at 100 entrants. Competitors will have 100 hours to finish the 200 miles. They will see view and terrain most people don’t get the chance to see; it’s a guarantee that everyone will stop for a moment to take in the views. Support crews, pacers, volunteers, and families will have ample time to partake in hiking, sightseeing, time in nature, enjoying local shops and restaurants, and everything in between while competitors are out on course. This multi-day event is truly an all-encompassing experience for everyone involved. The Divide 200 is a UTMB Qualifier, a Trail Sisters Approved race, and is part of the Alberta Ultra Series. The Divide 200 is one of 5 races organized by Sinister Sports. You can check out their other races on their website.
